Congrats, Dr. Wielgosz! Joseph Wielgosz, PhD, published “Best Practices for Approaching Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure During the COVID-19 Pandemic” in the Journal of Traumatic Stress this past August.
Alumni Spotlight! John Lin, MD, is a Hematology-Oncology Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania.

Congrats, Dr. Ferguson! The VA Office of Public and Intergovernmental Affairs recently referenced Dr. Jackie Ferguson’s JAMIA paper on veterans’ use of virtual care during the COVID-29 pandemic.
Congrats, Dr. Abdel Magid! Hoda S. Abdel Magid, PhD, recently had a paper accepted last December in Preventive Medicine.
Alumni spotlight! Rachel Schwartz, PhD, works with Stanford’s WellMD Center on a national project related to neurologist and psychiatrist wellness, and with Stanford Health Care’s Physician Partnership Program.

Alumni spotlight! Marie Haverfield, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in Critical Health Communication at San Jose State University in the Department of Communication Studies, College of Social Sciences.
Alumni spotlight! Laura A. Graham, PhD, MPH, is an epidemiologist with an interest in improving the efficiency of processes of clinical care. She is currently an investigator at Health Economics Resource Center (HERC).

Congrats, Drs. Tisdale and Ferguson! Becca Tisdale, MD, and Jacie Ferguson, PhD, recently had a virtual cardiology care abstract accepted as an award finalist for the 2021 SGIM (Society of General Medicine) Annual Meeting.
Good luck, Dr. Taylor! Kenji Taylor, MD, will become a family physician for an Army base outside of Tokyo caring for both active and non-active duty members and their families.
Alumni spotlight! Omar Usman, MD, is the Director of Clinical Informatics at all.health (formerly Jawbone Health). He also works as an Emergency Medicine Physician at VA Palo Alto and Kaiser Permanente San Leandro Medical Center.

Health Services Research Fellow Spotlight! Sarah Javier, PhD, recently published an Op-Ed entitled “Erased” under KQED Public Radio’s Perspectives, a series of daily commentaries by their listeners.
Congrats, Dr. Ferguson and Abdel Magid! Jacqueline Ferguson, PhD, and Hoda S. Abdel Magid, PhD, recently co-authored a paper in Public Health Reports titled “Differences in COVID-19 Testing and Test Positivity Among Veterans, United States, 2020”.

Meet the Fellows – BD-STEP! Ray Van Cleve, PhD, is a first year postdoctoral BD-STEP fellow at VAPAHCS and Stanford University. Prior to this fellowship, he worked as a statistician at the West Haven Connecticut VAMC.
Alumni spotlight! Jessie Wong, PhD, is a licensed psychologist, instructor, and clinical scientist in the Department of Pediatrics – Endocrinology, Stanford School of Medicine. She receive a K23 Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award.

Welcome, Ashley! Ashley Griffin, PhD, MSPH, recently started her VA Advanced Fellowship in Medical Informatics program on June 21. Dr. Griffin graduated from the Health Informatics Program at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in May 2021.

Alumni Spotlight! Meenadchi “Meena” Chelvakumar, MD , is a Family Medicine physician and Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford Medicine - Primary Care and Population Health (PCPH). She received a a PCPH Seed Grant to evaluate a IPV screening program.
Congrats, Dr. Macia! Kate Macia, PhD, recently published an article examining the mediating role of socio-emotional functioning between interpersonal trauma history and homelessness and employment outcomes among homeless Veterans.
Megan Vanneman, Ph , is a VAHSR&D Career Development Awardee (CDA 15-259), PI (Vanneman), Access to and Choice of VA or Non-VA Health Care by Veterans of Recent Conflicts. She also received VA HSR&D Service Directed Research (SDR 18-318).
Congrats, Dr. Olsen! Griffin Olsen, MD , graduated from Intermountain Healthcare's Advanced Training Program (ATP) in Clinical Quality Improvement in June.

Alumni Spotlight! Jessica Breland, PhD, is a core investigator at Ci2i and current VA HSR&D Career Development Awardee (CDA 15-257). Recently, Dr. Breland successfully received funding for her IIR to conduct a Hybrid Type 1 randomized Trial of EMBER.

Welcome, Dr. Manja! Veena Manja, MBBS, MSc, PhD, is a first year Advanced VA post-residency fellow in HSR. After completing medical school in India, she joined the Internal Medicine residency followed by a fellowship in cardiology in Buffalo, NY.

Alumni Spotlight! Dr. Breland successfully received funding for her IIR to conduct a Hybrid Type 1randomized Trial of EMBER, a self-help motivational tool to increase weight loss treatment engagement. This study commences in January 2022.
Welcome, Dr. Sakata! Thea Sakata, MD, is a first-year Stanford-Intermountain fellow. She completed her family medicine residency at the University of Utah in 2015, followed by a sports medicine fellowship at Cleveland Clinic.
